FAQ
What are the enrollment prerequisites for the Open Enrollment Hybrid EMT Course?
Must be 18 years of age at time of the certification exams. Must be free from any drug or alcohol addictions. CPR certification at the BLS Healthcare Provider Level. Students must complete BLS Heartcode online through
www.onlineaha.org to begin the course.
Is a hybrid course easier than the traditional face to face class?
You will find that taking a hybrid learning is academically challenging because most of the work is done on an independent basis. This requires a major time commitment to read print materials, become familiar with audio-visuals, prepare assignments, complete projects, and take examinations. The amount of time will vary depending on each students learning level and time commitment. Students can spend extra time studying on each section and reviewing information as needed.
Are there deadlines for the online work I do at home?
No. As an Open Enrollment course, you may spend as much or as little time on this program each week as you want. Absorbing the material is the most important part. Be sure to work through each module and feel comfortable before moving forward. In order for students to progress in the course, each assignment must be completed. The maximum time you may spend on this course is 12 weeks for the online component.
Quizzes, Exams, Class Interaction
Each section will have a pre-test, post-test, and chapter test designed to test the student’s knowledge of the content covered in the chapter. The overall results of chapter assignments will cross over to the student’s customized “study plan” where the student will be able to use the “quiz me” feature At the end of each section, the student will take a 100 question section exam. The student must score a 70% or better on two attempts in order to move on to the next section. When a student is taking a chapter test, or section exam, NEI will be utilizing the LockDown browser. This will disable all functions of their computer other than the chapter test / exam they are taking. Chapter tests do not have a time limit and are between 30 and 60 questions. Exams are 100 questions and have a 100 minute time limit. Students are locked out of all browser functions when in testing mode. They will not be able to use the back button, home tiles or external resources. In order to protect the integrity of the exam, each exam is presented in different order- meaning if two students are sitting next to each other at the library, they will have different questions. Students will have the opportunity to review each exam at any time throughout the course, however they will not be able to print screen shots, or print the exam. Students are required to complete the exam in one sitting. If they close out the browser and want to come back to the exam at a later time, the instructor must enable access to grant the student permission to pick up where they left off. Students are not able to start from the beginning. They are only able to pick up where they left off with the remaining time on the counter. Following each chapter test and section exam, the areas the student needs improvement in will cross over to their customized study plan.
What is the course consistency like?
Our Open Enrollment Hybrid EMT course allows for the standardized delivery of training material with a compressed delivery time. This eliminates session to session variances that occur in traditional classroom settings with even the best instructors.
What media will be available to students?
As part of each section, students will be required to view media of how National EMS conducts psychomotor sessions. These media clips are embedded into the LMS. These are considered a homework item, but will still show on the student dashboard with a due date. This will help prepare you for the face-to-face practical sessions at our campus.
Will there be any kind of chat or teacher assistance available?
Students will be able to email with their instructor during normal business hours – Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm. Student communication is a key component to the learning process. The instructor is also available by phone during normal business hours and also has extended office hours on Mondays from 1800-2000.
Where will we be able to find the student forms and handbook for the course?
Student forms and handbook are located in the communication section of the LMS. The first post on the dashboard will be to alert the students that they need to complete the paperwork and sign / return via fax or email. These forms will also be sent to the student via email prior to the start of the course.
How to I request Technical Support Assistance?
The package includes 24/7 access to Jones & Bartlett Student Support. Students can live chat with tech support or call directly for any issues related to the learning management system.
