AEMT/Cardiac
National EMS Institute’s AEMT/Cardiac course is broken down into two separate components. The first step is to complete the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians’s Advanced EMT course. This first course will run for 8 weeks. This blended style program will allow students to complete the didactic aspect of the course online using our robust learning management system. Each week, there will be reading assignments, online lectures, eBook quizzes, and homework assignments to build your foundation of knowledge. Each weeks assignments will open and close on Monday evenings at midnight. The hands on component to this program will take place on Saturdays from 9am-5pm. This time will be spent participating in specific lab skills to reinforce what you have learned online throughout the week.
After the 8th week, you will have completed the AEMT portion of the course and be eligible to sit for the NREMT’s AEMT Cognitive exam. The 9th week of training will begin the Rhode Island Cardiac portion of this program and introduce students to Anatomy & Physiology of the heart. We will deep dive into cardiology and see how we can use this to assess our patients. This portion of the program will run for an additional 12 weeks.
AEMT/Cardiac students will be required to complete 40 hours of clinical internship time and 24 hours of field internship time in order to complete the required skills.
